MIO is a National Advocacy Center working for Children’s Rights
On the 22th of November 2011 the Greenlandic Government decided to establish a National Advocacy Center working for Childrens Rights. MIO was founded in Spring 2012.
The Spokesperson for Children is the head of MIO. The Spokesperson is hired by the Greenlandic Government and acts as a Spokesperson for a period of 3 years. The Spokespersons name is Aviâja Egede Lynge. Aviâja will be the Spokesperson for Children in the period of june 2015 until june 2018.

In MIO there is also a Childrens Council. The Council has 7 members including the Spokesperson for Children. The Council is selected by the Government. The Council assists the Spokesperson for Children as an advisor regarding children and adolescents in Greenland. The Council meets 4 times a year.
In MIO there is also a Secretariat organized. The Secretariat has a staff of four. Two counsultants, an academic secretary and a head of the Secretariat. The Secretariat administers assistance to the Spokesperson for Children, this includes councelling citizens and teaching childrens rights to professionals. The Secretariat and the Spokesperson for Children coordinates cohesion as they carry out their work to implement and support the rights of children in Greenland.
In MIO we believe that all children are important and all children should have the opportunity to know their rights.
All children have the right to a safe, secure and healthy upbringing. And they have the right to express their beliefs and convictions.
